January 28, 2025 is Data Privacy Day (also known as Data Protection Day in Europe). This global initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of protecting personal information and encourages individuals and organizations to adopt better data privacy practices.

This year’s theme is “Take control of your data” to emphasize the need for vigilance in how we share and protect everyday information. Of course, regulations like GDPR or CCPA drive us to do the right thing, but as security, privacy, and compliance professionals, that is just “business-as-usual” as we celebrate Data Privacy Day every day.

From a personal perspective, how can you celebrate Data Privacy Day? Here are some ideas:

  • Educate yourself about privacy.
  • Review your privacy settings (social media, email, online services).
  • Spread awareness by sharing tips and information about data privacy with family, friends, and coworkers.
  • Secure all your devices (ensure all up to date)
  • Best of all (and most dreaded), do change your password.

From an organizational perspective, companies can celebrate in many ways:

  • Train all staff about privacy best practices, how to handle sensitive information, and, most of all, how to recognize phishing attempts.
  • Review and update all policies to ensure alignment with regulations and the industry.
  • Conduct awareness campaigns to offer tips and information on privacy compliance.
  • Conduct privacy audits to ensure continuous compliance.
  • Collaborate with privacy organizations and industry experts to ensure alignment.
  • Most of all, promote the culture of privacy, security, and compliance.

At Locus Robotics, we pride ourselves on our continuous due diligence to always do the right thing. We strongly believe trust is only built based on common purposes and common goals, as we are all in it together to protect what’s important.

We comply with privacy “organically”, which means that we ensure our program satisfies most laws and regulations across the globe. This may sound a bit complicated, but, in all honesty, it is all about having total visibility of all protected data:

  • What data we process
  • How is it used
  • How it flows though the organization
  • What risks data faces at every state
  • What controls should we have in place to protect it.

Happy Data Privacy Day (and Week!) from all of us at Locus Robotics. Let us all partner to spread the word, monitor all protected data, and practice continuous privacy compliance for continued success.
