The Challenge

Saddle Creek Logistics Services provides omnichannel fulfillment and distribution services for clients throughout the United States. This operation supports a Texas-based client shipping medical apparel and supplies to consumers, hospitals, and universities. One of Saddle Creek Logistics Services’ clients was experiencing significant growth, with order volume reaching as much as three times previous levels. Saddle Creek needed a fulfillment solution that could scale as demand changed while helping reduce labor requirements and operating costs.

The team also wanted automation that could be incorporated easily into its existing operation and deliver a rapid return on investment while giving the client room to continue growing.

The Solution

Saddle Creek Logistics Services deployed Locus Robotics AMRs along with reporting tools and operational dashboards. The deployment included integration with the existing WMS and network, facility and workflow design, robot implementation, navigation, and pick testing.

The operation ramped up in approximately two months, with Locus Robotics working alongside the Saddle Creek team to adapt the solution to its operational requirements. Associates could learn the system quickly and become productive from their first day using the Locus Robotics warehouse automation platform.

The Results

With Locus Robotics, Saddle Creek Logistics Services more than doubled productivity while significantly reducing congestion on the warehouse floor and accelerating fulfillment. The operation can accommodate unexpected demand increases of 30–40% above projections while continuing to meet customer service-level agreements (SLAs).

Automation also reduced the time required for new associates to reach full productivity by 50% and helped improve retention by reducing the amount of walking required during picking. With continued client growth expected, Saddle Creek is preparing to expand its operational footprint and increase the number of robots supporting associates by 85%.
