The Challenge
DHL Makro’s Madrid facility needed to manage thousands of daily outbound routes for 27 wholesale HoReCa stores while operating within a limited 1,685 m² drop-off area. The operation faced bottlenecks from 250+ pallet locations, seven months of annual high-volume demand, seasonal fluctuations, and heavy reliance on manual material handling equipment that created inefficiencies and safety concerns.
The Solution
DHL Makro implemented 123 Locus Origin robots through a flexible Robots-as-a-Service model, including 95 full-time robots and 28 seasonal robots that could scale with demand without capital investment or facility expansion. The robots deliver totes directly to the right pallets in a single trip, helping double lines per hour from 50 to 110, eliminate a manual sorting step, and maintain zero safety incidents in a busy warehouse environment.
